Chenibec
P1000725.JPG

This new grape variety is the result of a cross with the vinifera Chenin blanc grape. It is more rustic than Chenin blanc, more resistant to diseases, earlier, with larger clusters and berries and less acidic. It has a late budding, which prevents late frosts in the spring. This grape variety grows well in clay soil on sites protected from high winds. Presence of fertile latent buds on the vine. It ripens in early October, at the test site, in hardiness zone 4a. It ripens in the middle of September in zone 5. It can be grown in places where the Seyval blanc must be bumped against the cold. It prefers short pruning in cold regions, such as the Gobelet and the short Guyot. Grape with fruity taste, bright, light, perfumed. Brix between 20 and 22, total acidity between 0.77 and 1.30 percent. It can make several types of wine as well as icewine. It performs particularly well in the production of excellent sparkling wines, vinous, with fruity aromas, with an optimal rate of natural acidity bringing this quality to the wine produced. It is a grape that works well in the press, and the juice does not oxidize.

 Juneaudor précoce

This varietal is a natural seedling of a cross with the vinifera Carmine  grape (which contains the genes of Sauvignon blanc). The clusters are yellow gold at maturity, drawing the eye to the vineyard. It stands out from all known grape varieties, by the extremely early maturity of its grapes. It matures in early September in zone 4a, less than 900 DJ (10). It is very fertile on latent buds, thus increasing production. It is the first grape harvested in season at the vineyard and the harvest can be spread over 3 weeks (selective harvest). The wines produced have typical aromas of the vinifera Sauvignon grape, but less acidic. No Labrusca genes. Provide a preventative on site treatment that is prone to botrytis.                                                                                                * Juneaudor précoce is protected by Plant Breeders' Rights in Canada. Gewurztraminer RJ

   First rustic    vinifera variety

20191005_161329_edited.jpg

It originates from a natural mutation of the noble grape variety vinifera Gewurztraminer clone 47. This first Vitis vinifera grape in my improvement program is more rustic and earlier than all known grapes vinifera varieties. Grape variety well suited to clay soils. Late bud burst and maturity at the beginning of October in zone 4a. Vigorous and very productive variety. The grapes at maturity is pink-purple in color, sweet taste, with aromas: exotic, honey, apple, and slightly muscat. The grape has a thick skin which protects it from autumn frosts of -3 degrees Celsius, allowing the late harvest. The cluster and berry are larger than those of Gewurztraminer clones and have good disease resistance. Gewurztraminer RJ produces dry white wines, with aromas of lychee, white flowers and slightly muscat. A pink wine can be obtained by skin fermentation, as well as an ice wine (icewin method). The grapes remain on the bunch in winter.                                                                                                                   *Gewurztraminer RJ is protected by Plant Breeders' Rights in Canada.
